double rehearsals

There was recently a poll taken about having 2 rehearsals on Friday. I voted no for this for two reasons.

1. I can not make enough money to give up my job and still play in the symphony and I'd like to do both. (it may not necessarily make me give up my job but it's harder to have a full time job and have too many commitments that conflict with it.)

2. I think it's beneficial to have that earlier rehearsal. It helps me correct any misconceptions I have about the music and gives me the time to correct things that are weak. That takes time and having only 2 days before the concert to find out where the weak spots are is too short.

other ideas?

RE: double rehearsals

Having ample time to rehearse before a performance makes a tremendous difference.  What we do is often very difficult and stressful, and the performances are on a razor's edge.  Don't get me wrong - I enjoy that race-car-driver aspect of being a musician, but in the interest of the quality of the performance, it's better to have more lead time.

RE: double rehearsals

Especially in music. You simply can't cram. I often have told my students they are much better off practicing 4 days for 1/2 hour rather than 1 day for 2 hours. It's an interesting characteristic of physical activities like music performing, ballet, golf, tennis, etc.
